Welcome to Nueva School for the Performing Arts: American Literature Course 2014/2015
By emphasizing the importance of transferable skills, learner-centered pedagogy, and practical application, NUEVA'S curriculum gives students a 21st century foundation. This course actively applies blended learning techniques through the use of online discussion forums, interactive websites, and smart-phone integration. Nueva's interdisciplinary approach to English and Social Studies curriculum explores society and culture through art, literature, music, dance, film, and history – fostering the powers of critical analysis and insight. In addition, NUEVA creatively integrates honors in a non-traditional way, teaching students to lead effectively and be prepared for college.
Furthermore, career skills are embedded in NUEVA'S philosophy. In addition to being prepared to pursue further study in the visual or performing arts, NUEVA graduates are excellent candidates for work in advertising, sales, and the general business environment. The soft skills of communication, goal setting, team management, collaboration, problem solving, public speaking, and flexibility are specifically addressed and developed. Through our internships and collaboration with professional consultants, we aim to create more community related experiences for students and better tie our students’ studies to the real world.
